WHY WAS BRANDENBURG CONCERTO No. 7 CANCELED?
It’s all about child support.
In 1721, Johann Sebastian Bach compiled a collection of six concertos and presented it to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt.
They are known as the six Brandenburg concertos.
J.S. Bach had to feed his 10 children. So he worked as a paid musician-composer employee for the Commander (Margrave) of Brandenburg.
Bach presented 7 concertos to the Commander of Brandenburg City. But the commander was not pleased with the last concerto.
Bach relied on the child support he was getting from the city’s Boss and canceled the concerto No 7 to please the Military Ruler of Brandenburg.
After all he needed his child support payments to feed his children.
